Job summary

The City of Virginia Beach is seeking a Planner II in Parks and Recreation Facilities Design and Construction Management to lead professional park planning, design and construction management activities. You will develop concept plans, render presentations, coordinate with design firms, and ensure projects meet standards from concept through completion.

Ideal candidates have landscape architecture education, Virginia licensure, and experience in capital improvement planning.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's level education in landscape architecture, architecture, or related field.
• Virginia landscape architect certification is preferred.
• Experience in parks and recreation facility or outdoor recreational planning a plus.
• Project management experience in capital improvement projects.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Photoshop, SketchUp and other design software.

Responsibilities

• Develop concept plans for underdeveloped and undeveloped parks.
• Create presentation drawings including rendered plans and 3-D drawings for public input.
• Coordinate with design firms to move projects from concept to bid documents through construction.
• Review planning documents to ensure consistency with design standards and long-range plans.
• Collaborate with playground vendors to develop designs for new play structures and monitor installations.
• Maintain park asset and inventory records for planning and operations.
• Manage repairs and replacement of park amenities including shelters and courts.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, SketchUp, ArcGIS, Adobe Suite and MS Office.
