Job Objective
To operate grounds maintenance equipment and perform maintenance activities at Parks and Recreation Department facilities.
Essential Functions
- Operate hand and tractor-mounted mowers and hand-held string trimmers to cut grass around Department facilities; perform minor preventive maintenance on tractors and mowers; sharpen and replace blades on mowers.
- Operate chain saw to cut trees and brush.
- Mix and apply non-restricted use chemical agents, including fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, and pesticides.
- Clean rest rooms and pick up debris.
- Repair and paint park benches and trash barrels; perform minor building and plumbing maintenance.
- Operate light earth-moving equipment, including small backhoe, Bobcat, and front-end loader, as required.
- Operate light and medium duty trucks with trailers to transport equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Provide working supervision to Parks Maintenance Workers and part-time employees.
- Operate garbage truck to pick up trash and haul to City landfill.
- Report department facility equipment and buildings needing repair to the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications and Additional Requirements
- Completion of eighth (8th) grade or higher.
- At least one (1) year of experience in landscaping, golf course, or grounds maintenance.
- One (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience.
- Valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment; within ninety (90) days, obtain and maintain a valid Arkansas Class B (Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License.
