This position is designated as a safety/security sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

Job Objective

To operate grounds maintenance equipment and perform maintenance activities at Parks and Recreation Department facilities.

Essential Functions

• Operate hand and tractor-mounted mowers and hand-held string trimmers to cut grass around Department facilities; perform minor preventive maintenance on tractors and mowers; sharpen and replace blades on mowers.
• Operate chain saw to cut trees and brush.
• Mix and apply non-restricted use chemical agents, including fertilizers, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, and pesticides.
• Clean rest rooms and pick up debris.
• Repair and paint park benches and trash barrels; perform minor building and plumbing maintenance.
• Operate light earth-moving equipment, including small backhoe, Bobcat, and front-end loader, as required.
• Operate light and medium duty trucks with trailers to transport equipment, materials, and supplies.
• Provide working supervision to Parks Maintenance Workers and part-time employees.
• Operate garbage truck to pick up trash and haul to City landfill.
• Report department facility equipment and buildings needing repair to the supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications and Additional Requirements

• Completion of eighth (8th) grade or higher.
• At least one (1) year of experience in landscaping, golf course, or grounds maintenance.
• One (1) year of supervisory or leadership experience.
• Valid Arkansas Class D (Non-Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License before employment; within ninety (90) days, obtain and maintain a valid Arkansas Class B (Commercial Vehicle) Driver's License.
