Job summary

The City of Apache Junction is seeking a Parks Maintenance Specialist to perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks in the Parks and Recreation Department. This role emphasizes maintenance of landscaping, irrigation, trails, rodeo grounds and facilities, with potential lead responsibilities.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED and 3 years of relevant experience; certifications such as CPO or herbicide application may be required within specified timelines.

Qualifications

• Must possess a high school diploma or GED, and three (3) years paid fulltime experience in park maintenance, construction, landscaping, irrigation, facilities maintenance or related field; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards and regulations; landscaping maintenance practices; irrigation and sprinkler system installation; basic pool maintenance methods.
• Must obtain an Arizona Herbicide Application Certification and a valid Arizona Commercial Driver’s license within one year of appointment; may require Certified Pool Operator certification within 6 months.

Responsibilities

• Maintain landscaped areas and turf; prune trees and shrubs; monitor, water and fertilize; clean restrooms and remove debris.
• Inspect and repair playground equipment, tables, barbecues and facilities; respond to public inquiries and requests.
• Maintain irrigation systems: adjust heads, valves, controllers; lead irrigation projects as assigned.
• Maintain trails and open space areas; perform trail building, repairs and related projects.
• Perform construction, repair and maintenance of Rodeo Grounds facilities including arena and grounds.
• Perform diverse construction and maintenance tasks including concrete, drainage, masonry, fencing and electrical work.
• Troubleshoot repairs and coordinate with vendors; ensure safety and compliance.
• Maintain swimming facilities: vacuum, test water, operate pumps and filters.
• Identify equipment needs; manage safety; set up traffic control for events.
