Job summary

City of Cambridge seeks a Special Motor Equipment Operator IIA in the Public Works Department to maintain recreation areas, athletic fields, parks, and playgrounds. Under supervision, you will operate motor equipment, load materials, and support snow and salting operations.

Requirements include a minimum of 2 years’ experience, valid CDL Class B, Hoisting Engineer License 2B, and a clean driving record. The role includes on-road assessments, FMCSA Clearinghouse registration, and civil service

Qualifications

• 2 years’ experience in maintenance of recreation areas, athletic fields, parks and playgrounds.
• CDL Class B license current and valid.
• Hoisting Engineer License 2B (backhoes and loaders) current.
• DOT medical certificate current.
• Satisfactory driving record.
• Provide driving record dated within 6 months at interview.
• On-road driving assessment during interview.
• Register with FMCSA Clearinghouse.
• Internal applicants must have permanent civil service status.

Responsibilities

• Operate motor equipment and vehicles up to 26,001 pounds as required.
• Perform preventive maintenance and minor servicing of equipment.
• Load/unload trucks and haul materials for roads, snow, and salting operations.
• Assist with digging, shoveling, and general labor in parks and recreation areas.
• Work in different divisions with specialized equipment as assigned.
