Job summary

The City of Springfield and the Springfield-Greene County Parks Department are seeking an Urban Landscape Technician to enhance and maintain our parks, gardens, and public spaces through sustainable horticulture.

You’ll establish native plant communities, support pollinator habitats, and maintain rain gardens and other green infrastructure while working with on-site equipment. The role serves the community and environment.

Qualifications

• Three years of work experience in landscape-related fields (e.g., arboriculture, horticulture).
• 23 hours of horticulture/forestry/natural resource management coursework may substitute for two years’ experience.
• Experience in irrigation, native plant establishment, or vegetated green infrastructure maintenance is preferred.
• Licensing/Certification: CDL with tanker and air brake endorsements; Missouri CP Operator License in Ornamental and Turf; ISA Certified Arborist within probation.

Responsibilities

• Create and maintain landscapes: plant, cultivate, prune, and maintain flowers, trees, shrubs, turf, and other vegetation.
• Support sustainable landscaping: establish native plant communities, pollinator habitats, rain gardens, and green infrastructure.
• Apply horticultural knowledge: select plant materials and design planting layouts based on site conditions and maintenance needs.
• Promote plant health: identify invasive vegetation, implement weed control, assist with integrated pest management.
