Job summary

City of Chesapeake seeks a motivated individual to join Parks, Recreation, & Tourism, assisting in maintaining historic and municipal grounds and facilities. The role involves outdoor work, customer service, and helping ensure parks and public spaces are safe, clean, and welcoming to the community.

Responsibilities include operating equipment, performing grounds maintenance, assisting with events, and documenting work orders.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma, GED, or specialized vocational training.
• Experience: None required.

Responsibilities

• Provides exceptional internal and external customer service and responds to requests per City standards.
• Operates lawn and garden equipment, vehicles and tools; lifts up to 50 pounds and performs physical tasks.
• Maintains landscaping, grounds, sidewalks, fixtures, and park amenities surrounding City facilities.
• Performs repairs and maintenance on grounds, landscapes, structures, and equipment including carpentry work on shelters, signs and benches.
• Maintains grounds through mowing, trimming, seasonal tasks, fertilizing and painting park amenities.
• Provides setup and breakdown support for events and cleans facilities after use.
• Monitors areas for safety hazards and reports deficiencies to supervisor.
• Submits work orders and keeps routine documentation.
