Starting wage is $19/hour with a Fort Walton Beach location schedule of Monday–Friday 6 a.m.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous landscaping or grounds maintenance experience preferred.
• Facility maintenance experience preferred.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License with clean driving record required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain grounds through mowing, weeding, pruning, and pest control; repair irrigation systems.
• Operate lawn care tools and equipment (mowers, weed eaters, blowers, hedgers).
• Perform light facility maintenance, including bulbs, HVAC filters, and basic plumbing.
• Prepare areas for sodding and address safety hazards such as holes or loose turf.
• Perform routine equipment checks and minor repairs; report major issues to supervisor.

The Groundskeeper performs a variety of grounds maintenance, custodial, and landscaping duties, along with light facility maintenance tasks. This role helps ensure a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for county staff and the public.

Job Responsibilities

• Maintain assigned grounds through landscaping duties including mowing, weeding, pruning, and pest control; repair and maintain irrigation systems.
• Operate manual, electric, and gas-powered tools and equipment (e.g., lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers, hedgers).
• Clean and maintain equipment; ensure storage areas remain organized and orderly.
• Prepare areas for sodding and repair public safety hazards such as ground holes or loose turf.
• Perform routine maintenance checks on grounds equipment and vehicles before and after use. Conduct minor repairs, including small engine work, fuel system replacement, basic wiring, and welding; report major issues to a supervisor.
• Perform light facility maintenance, including replacing light bulbs, HVAC air filters (per preventative maintenance schedule), and basic plumbing fixtures as needed.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits
