Job summary

City of Las Cruces is seeking an entry-level Parks Maintenance worker to perform outdoor maintenance and upkeep of city parks and public spaces. The role involves following defined daily tasks under supervision and supporting a team with various grounds tasks.

You will assist in landscaping, cleaning, and basic repairs, ensuring safety and order in outdoor environments. This position requires reliability, physical stamina, and a willingness to work varied shifts and weather conditions.

Qualifications

• No education requirement and six months of experience in grounds maintenance or related.
• A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied per City policy.
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
• Experience with parks structures and equipment is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Inspect park structures and equipment and perform repairs as needed.
• Conduct landscaping tasks including plantings, pruning, weeding, spraying, and turf maintenance.
• Mow grass, apply pesticides and fertilizers, lay sod as appropriate.
• Clean and maintain restrooms; remove trash and litter; respond to cleanliness needs.
• Perform minor maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
• Transport bleachers, stages, chairs, tents, and related items to event sites and prepare sites before/after events.
• Assist in maintenance and repair of athletic fields and related facilities.
• Support irrigation and construction crews; assist with playground equipment maintenance as needed.
