Job summary

The City of Las Cruces is seeking an employee to operate light construction equipment and vehicles as part of the parks maintenance and construction program. The role requires heavy physical work outdoors, driving, and compliance with safety regulations.

Two years of related experience are required, with a valid Class B CDL and possible forklift certification. The position is full-time, non-exempt, union-represented, and located in Public Works.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience in light construction equipment operation, street construction, park maintenance, and/or landscaping.

Responsibilities

• Loads, transports, and unloads tools, parts, materials, and equipment to job sites; operates trucks, front end loaders, and backhoes for roads, properties, and structures.
• Operates equipment to repair utility cuts; organizes work orders to address critical issues and repairs.
• Performs grounds upkeep, mowing, fertilizing grass, pruning trees per schedules and procedures.
• Uses dump trucks, front loaders, and backhoes to haul debris; supports chip sealing, paving, milling, and road work.
• Performs maintenance and minor repairs on small engines and equipment; sharpens blades; welds and fabricates parts; coordinates maintenance with shop staff.
• Operates power tools; assists field crews with upkeep, repairs, and events setup and cleanup.
• Performs storm drain locates; prevents damage; responds to locate tickets with equipment.
• Cleans, sweeps, and maintains safety of roadways, sidewalks, and storm drains.
• Coordinates and supports purchasing, transport, and delivery of supplies as needed.
