Job summary

City of Augusta is seeking a dedicated cemetery groundskeeper to perform landscaping, mowing, trimming, and routine maintenance of parks and burial grounds. You will operate mowers, edgers, and other equipment, assist with burial services, and ensure clean, safe grounds for visitors.

The role requires reliable daily attendance, adherence to safety procedures, and teamwork with other staff to maintain equipment and grounds year-round.

Responsibilities

• Performs mowing, weed eating, trimming trees and shrubs, edging lawns, raking, watering plants and trees, sweeping and clearing fallen debris
• Operates and maintains park equipment (benches, tables, signs) and performs general maintenance on equipment
• Repairs and maintains equipment (mowers, playground, picnic tables) and handles daily safety checks
• Locates, marks gravesites for excavation and assists with burial logistics
• Assists visitors with questions regarding plots, gravesites, mausoleums and cemetery
• Tests and maintains chemical levels on pool during swimming season (if applicable)
• Attends mandatory safety meetings and wears PPE as required
• Cleans restrooms, picks up litter, and performs site setup for ceremonies
• Open and close graves and set up canopy and chairs for burial services
• Assists other team members to accomplish tasks and adheres to employee handbook standards
• Performs snow removal assistance and routine groundskeeping tasks as assigned
