Job summary

City of Mount Vernon is seeking a Parks Maintenance Worker to perform skilled and semi-skilled tasks across parks, facilities, and trails. You will assist with construction projects, irrigation, and event support, under general supervision.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED and 3 years of relevant experience (or equivalent). A valid WA driver’s license and relevant certifications are necessary to ensure safe, efficient operation of equipment and maintenance tasks.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and 3 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Experience in parks, facilities, and trails maintenance is preferred.
• Ability to operate a variety of tools and equipment safely.

Responsibilities

• Performs maintenance in parks, facilities, and trails, including mowing, edging, weeding, spraying, trash removal, and sprinkler and restroom upkeep.
• Conducts daily rounds in designated areas and reports needs to supervisors.
• Operates equipment and hand/power tools; uses excavators, dump trucks, woodchippers and similar gear.
• Maintains athletic fields and irrigation systems; performs winterization and repairs as needed.
• Constructs and maintains signs, kiosks, and fences; supports special events and project work.
• Performs basic electrical tasks such as outlets, lighting, and troubleshooting.
