Polk County Board of County Commissioners in Lakeland, FL seeks a Parks Carpenter to perform skilled carpentry and related park maintenance duties within the Parks and Natural Resources division. The role includes building and repairing wooden structures, site layout, concrete work, and minor locksmith tasks on county facilities.

The starting rate is $23.96/hour. Must have high school diploma or GED and at least five years of carpenter experience, plus a valid Florida driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited high school or possess an acceptable equivalency diploma and have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience as a carpenter.
• Must possess a valid driver's license or be able to secure a Florida driver's license at the time of employment within this classification.
• A comparable amount of related training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

• Performs rough and finished building construction involving carpentry, concrete, floors, stairways, doors, partitions, windows, screens, roofing and other wood fixtures.
• Operates a variety of power tools and instructs other staff in safe operation.
• Builds rough wooden structures such as kiosks, barricades, fences, signs and scaffolds.
• Performs site layout and constructs concrete forms; directs installation of reinforcing bars and welded wire mesh.
• Directs pours and finishes concrete for sidewalks and flatwork.
• Performs locksmith services for security lock systems.
• Inspects facilities for safety and preventative maintenance.
• Specifies materials for new projects, repairs and purchases or coordinates purchases.
• Constructs picnic tables and other park equipment.
