Job description

Parking Management, Facilities, and Capital Projects Unit plays a vital role in the development, management, and operation of the City's municipal parking infrastructure. The unit manages 8 multi-level parking garages and 30 municipal parking fields across the city, overseeing structural inspections, capital projects, contract administration, and sustainability initiatives. Our mission is to integrate sustainability practices and environmental safety into municipal parking facilities.

Position: Assistant Environmental Engineer

We are seeking an Assistant Environmental Engineer to support sustainability and environmental initiatives. The candidate will assist in planning and implementing sustainable engineering solutions for municipal parking facilities and collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.

1. Manage chemical inventory and ensure proper storage and disposal of hazardous materials in compliance with regulations.
2. Oversee sewer and catch basin cleaning and environmental maintenance in parking fields.
3. Review material safety data sheets and ensure compliance with environmental and fire protection codes.
4. Assist with designing and installing EV charging infrastructure in parking facilities.
5. Review plans, proposals, and drawings for sustainability projects.
6. Prepare estimates, specifications, memos, drawings, and maps for environmental projects.
7. Coordinate with consultants, contractors, and city agencies for project execution.
8. Conduct inspections and performance evaluations of EV chargers and track energy data.
9. Support other environmental projects such as lighting upgrades and drainage improvements.
10. Conduct research, assessments, and engineering studies for environmental initiatives.
11. Assist with sustainability reporting, permitting, and compliance work.
12. Review contracts and ensure compliance.

Some assignments may require a driver's license, with preference given to candidates holding a valid New York State driver's license, which must be maintained during employment.

Work Location & Hours

35 hours/week, Monday to Friday, 7 am - 3 pm

Additional Information

This position may qualify for remote work up to 2 days per week under the City’s Remote Work Pilot Program.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Baccalaureate degree in environmental, chemical, mechanical, petroleum, aeronautical, or materials engineering from an accredited college, plus one year of relevant experience; or
2. Baccalaureate degree in the listed fields plus a master's degree in environmental engineering. A master's degree can substitute for one year of experience.

Preferred Skills

• Interest and experience in sustainable infrastructure, EV technology, or green building practices.
• Familiarity with municipal engineering or public works projects.
• Knowledge of EV charging systems, load management, and utility coordination.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, GIS, and technical drawing review.

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
