Job summary

Camden is seeking a Parking Enforcement Officer to enforce town parking ordinances and resolve parking-related problems. You will ensure normal parking during peak summer periods, under the supervision of the officer on duty and the Chief of Police.

Responsibilities include marking timed zones, issuing tickets for violations, maintaining ticket supplies, assisting in dispatch, and handling ticket records and court preparation. A high school diploma and Maine traffic law knowledge are desirable.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of the principal buildings, streets and layout of Town and adjoining areas.
• Knowledge of modern principles and practices of police work.
• Ability to cope with situations firmly, courteously and with respect for rights.
• Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Marks vehicles parked in time limit zones.
• Tickets vehicles in violation of municipal parking ordinances.
• Maintains a supply of tickets for officers.
• Assists in the dispatch office as necessary.
• Assists in the maintenance of ticket records and collection of fines.
• Prepares parking ticket cases for court when appropriate.
• Assists in updating the parking code and ticket design.
• Meets with the Parking Committee and citizen groups on parking problems.
