Responsibilities
30% Respond to Machine and other Equipment Issues
- Perform daily tours of staffed parking facilities.
- Check operation of all equipment onsite including automated paymachines.
- Respond to any reports and troubleshoot potential causes ofmalfunctions.
- Report malfunctions and issues that cannot be solved.
- Ensure that adequate supplies and tickets are available fortheir area's facilities.
- Greet and talk with each attendant on site while conductingtours to assess performance, check paperwork, answer questions, andpromote communication.
- Perform on-the-spot training or coaching as necessary.
- Monitors video system for issues and maintenance concerns inUniversity parking facilities.
20% Supervise parking attendants
- Schedule the hours of work for parking attendants in theirarea.
- Alter assignments to maintain appropriate coverage on aday-to-day basis to attend to service needs.
- Interview and train parking attendants.
- Orient, train, coach, discipline, and evaluate staff in theoperation of parking facilities.
- Administer University and departmental policies.
- Maintain personnel incident log for student parkingattendants.
- Recommend changes to the staffing plan.
- Follow department protocol for dealing with emergenciesincluding notification of attendants and closeout procedures.
20% Determine parking usage in facilities based on supply anddemand
- Enforce policies and procedures.
- Utilize departmental PARCS (Parking Access Revenue ControlSystem) to monitor space, adjust counts and provide usable space toall users of parking facilities.
- Inform the Assistant Director of Operations of problems,complaints, and unusual occurrences in the area.
- Operate and effectively use the department’s technologyincluding scheduler, electronic payroll and parking access controlsystems, Windows operating system, Google Drive, MS Office (Wordand Excel), and other systems.
20% Provide customer service to patrons utilizing parkingfacilities
- Deal effectively with difficult customers to resolveproblems.
- Work to find the best parking solution for customers or directthem to appropriate personnel or resources.
- Look for ways to improve efficiency and service levels.
- Attend training sessions or seminars to improveperformance.
- Report any recommendations for changes in policies and/oroperating procedures to the Assistant Director of Operations.
- Serve as back up to customer service and call center functionsas needed.
- Attend meetings and follow up with customer departmentsregarding parking needs.
10% Assist with other parking functions as needed
Work Environment:
Work is performed in both an office andfield environment.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- BA/BS with at least 2 years of experience or a combination ofrelated education and work experience to equal six years; positioninvolves comparing, verifying and reconciling data to help thedepartment achieve overall objectives.
- Two years of experience in the field operations (security,event management, parking, or related) with at least one-yearinvolving supervision.
- A valid U.S. driver's license is required.

- Ability to establish effective working relationships with adiverse customer base and work force.
- Experience leading effectively and working collaboratively withstaff in a unionized setting.

- Knowledge of large-scale parking operations principles andpractices; knowledge of parking systems including parking accesscontrol software and hardware, AS400 systems, and related systemsis desirable.
- Well-developed computer proficiency in effectively using MSOffice Suite software for work initiatives.
- Skill in using computerized scheduling software to trackpersonnel.
About the Department
Parking and Transportation Services is a self-supporting unit ofthe University of Minnesota within Auxiliary Services. Thedepartment is responsible for the administration, operation andmaintenance of reliable and efficient transportation services onthe Twin Cities campus including transit, parking, fleet, streets,walkways and way-finding. PTS supports alternatives to thesingle-occupant vehicle and promotes programs to encourage theUniversity community to walk, bike, carpool, or take the bus. Thedepartment handles compliance documentation for all Universityvehicles or licensed equipment and administers the fuel creditcard, vehicle insurance and safety, and employee driver trainingprograms.
PTS Mission
Facilitating safe and effective integrated transportation systemsthat provide services for pedestrians, bicycles, transit andvehicles.
