The City of Fort Lauderdale is seeking a Parking Operations Supervisor to oversee the operation and maintenance of municipal parking facilities, including security staff and contracted personnel. The role reports to the division manager and emphasizes safe, efficient, and customer-focused parking services.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, 3+ years in parking facility maintenance, 2+ years of supervisory experience, and mechanical/electronic knowledge.

Job description

This position is responsible for supervising the operation and maintenance of municipal parking facilities, including associated security guards, contracted security personnel and Police detail security at parking facilities. Work is reviewed by a division manager or assistant divisionmanager through observation, reports submitted, and results obtained.

This is a classified position covered by the Personnel Rules. This job classification is in Management Category IV for benefits purposes, which includes five (5) additional Management Vacation days per calendar year and a monthly Employee Expense Allowance of $120.00.

Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.   • Supervises the work of assigned staff; delegates and reviews work assignments; conducts performance evaluations
  • Interviews candidates for employment and recommends in the interest of the City, that eligible applicants hired and that employees be transferred, promoted, reassigned, disciplined or terminated; participates in the administration of collective bargaining agreements and in the adjustment of grievances
  • Exercises initiative and independent judgment in determining work methods, equipment, material, and personnel needs
  • Plans, organizes, and manages preventive maintenance programs of City owned parking facilities
  • Manages stormwater maintenance and inspection programs for all City parking facilities
  • Manage existing landscape and cleaning contracts for all City parking facilities.
  • Routinely inspect all parking facilities and coordinate any recommended improvement projects
  • May oversee the security guard staff patrolling City parking facilities
  • May oversee Parking Facility Maintenance Worker II’s and Facility Maintenance Coordinators
  • May oversee Construction Worker staff
  • Coordinates deliveries to facilitate operations
  • Purchases supplies, parts, and materials; maintains inventory
  • Recommends preventive maintenance programs for the division’s parking lots, parking and building facilities to protect the City’s overall investment and provide effective customer service
  • Participates in the development of the annual operating budget
  • Assists other parking operations supervisors with the City’s large special events, music festivals, marathons and annual boat show
  • Trains employees on proper work methods and procedures
  • Recommends that employees attend training for employee development purposes
  • Fills in when other parking operations supervisors can’t attend the City’s weekly special event meetings
  • Resolves customer complaints; responds to questions from the public
  • Participates in a variety of meetings with staff, managers, directors, vendors, and neighbors
  • Performs related work as required
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
  1. Have graduated from a standard high school or possess an acceptable G.E.D. certificate from a recognized issuing agency.
  2. Have three (3) or more years of experience in varied construction, maintenance, and repair of parking facilities and property or other appropriate experience.
  3. Two (2) or more years of related supervisory experience in the field of Parking Facilities.
  4. Must have mechanical and electronic knowledge and experience.
  5. Additional qualifying experience or completion of coursework at an accredited college or university in a job related field, may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required industry experience.
  6. Additional education cannot substitute for the required supervisory experience.
  7. Possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Florida Driver's license with an acceptable driving record within 30 days of hire.
  8. PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
