Job summary

Provo City is seeking a Parking and Zoning Supervisor to oversee the parking and zoning/code compliance team and ensure city code enforcement and service standards are met.

The role involves directing daily operations, prioritizing resident concerns, and coordinating with Police and Legal departments to enforce regulations and improve public safety.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Four years of code compliance or support experience preferred.
  • A valid driver license required.
  • Code enforcement certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the daily work of the parking and zoning/code compliance team.
  • Review and prioritize community concerns about parking, zoning, nuisances, and property issues.
  • Conduct and oversee field inspections to identify compliance problems.
  • Investigate and enforce regulations on illegal parking, unsafe conditions, etc.
  • Maintain clear case records with evidence and reports.
  • Communicate requirements and violations to residents and property owners.
  • Prepare or review notices of violation and track progress.
  • Coordinate with Police, Legal, and other departments on enforcement actions.
  • Oversee towing, cleanup, and monitoring where needed.
  • Hire, train, coach, and evaluate staff for continuous improvement.

Parking and Zoning Supervisor

Provo City's Development Services Department is seeking a Parking and Zoning Supervisor to oversee City code compliance activities and staff. This position is responsible to the Parking and Zoning Manager for enforcing code and parking requirements in the City of Provo. What is the compensation package? Pay : (G27) $27.27 - $40.48 per hour (depending on qualifications)

What are the main duties? (For the full classification specification click here .)
  • Lead and support the daily work of the parking and zoning/code compliance team, helping staff stay organized and deliver great public service.
  • Review and prioritize community concerns about parking, zoning, nuisance, and property maintenance issues, and make sure they are addressed promptly.
  • Conduct and oversee field inspections in neighborhoods and other locations to identify parking and zoning/code compliance problems.
  • Investigate and enforce regulations related to issues such as illegal parking, abandoned or non-operational vehicles, illegal signs, unsafe conditions, and other nuisances.
  • Keep clear, accurate case records by gathering information, taking photos, speaking with involved parties, and preparing reports.
  • Communicate with residents, property owners, and others to explain requirements, violations, and the steps needed to correct issues.
  • Prepare or review notices of violation, establish timelines for compliance, and track progress until cases are resolved.
  • Work closely with Police, Legal, dispatch, and other City departments to coordinate enforcement actions and respond to safety-related concerns.
  • Oversee actions such as vehicle towing, contractor cleanup or abatement, and the use of enforcement tools and monitoring systems when needed.
  • Hire, train, coach, and evaluate staff while promoting accountability, problem-solving, and continuous improvement across the team.
What are the minimum requirements?
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Four (4) years of experience in code compliance or support in a medium-to-large program, preferably in a city.
  • A valid, lawful Driver License. (Applicant may be disqualified on the basis of an unacceptable driving record.)
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • American Association of Code Enforcement Certificate preferred.
  • Provo City will honor equivalent combinations of job-related experience and skills [substituting each one year of education for six months of experience].
What is the selection process?
  • Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held seven (7) days after initial posting . Job solicitation may be closed at that time. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.
  • If selected for hire, candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
