Job summary

City of Provo is seeking a Parking and Zoning Supervisor to oversee code compliance activities and staff in Provo, UT. You will lead the parking and zoning team, ensure timely responses to community concerns, and coordinate with Police, Legal, and other city departments to enforce regulations.

  • Investigate and enforce regulations related to parking, signs, nuisances, and unsafe conditions.
  • Maintain clear case records with photos and reports.
  • Explain requirements, violations, and steps to correct issues to residents.
  • Prepare or review notices of violation and tracking timelines.
  • Coordinate enforcement actions with Police, Legal, dispatch, and other departments.
  • Oversee towing, cleanup/abatement, and enforcement tools as needed.
  • Hire, train, coach, and evaluate staff.

Provo City’s Development Services Department is seeking a Parking and Zoning Supervisor to oversee City code compliance activities and staff. This position is responsible to the Parking and Zoning Manager for enforcing code and parking requirements in the City of Provo. What is the compensation package?

Pay: (G27) $27.27 - $40.48 per hour (depending on qualifications)

  • Lead and support the daily work of the parking and zoning/code compliance team, helping staff stay organized and deliver great public service.
  • Review and prioritize community concerns about parking, zoning, nuisance, and property maintenance issues, and make sure they are addressed promptly.
  • Conduct and oversee field inspections in neighborhoods and other locations to identify parking and zoning/code compliance problems.
  • Investigate and enforce regulations related to issues such as illegal parking, abandoned or non-operational vehicles, illegal signs, unsafe conditions, and other nuisances.
  • Keep clear, accurate case records by gathering information, taking photos, speaking with involved parties, and preparing reports.
  • Communicate with residents, property owners, and others to explain requirements, violations, and the steps needed to correct issues.
  • Prepare or review notices of violation, establish timelines for compliance, and track progress until cases are resolved.
  • Work closely with Police, Legal, dispatch, and other City departments to coordinate enforcement actions and respond to safety-related concerns.
  • Oversee actions such as vehicle towing, contractor cleanup or abatement, and the use of enforcement tools and monitoring systems when needed.
  • Hire, train, coach, and evaluate staff while promoting accountability, problem-solving, and continuous improvement across the team.
What are the minimum requirements?
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Four (4) years of experience in code compliance or support in a medium-to-large program, preferably in a city.
  • A valid, lawful Driver License. (Applicant may be disqualified on the basis of an unacceptable driving record.)
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • American Association of Code Enforcement Certificate preferred.

Provo City will honor equivalent combinations of job-related experience and skills [substituting each one year of education for six months of experience].

What is the selection process?

Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
