Job summary

The County of Riverside's Regional Park and Open-Space District seeks Park Ranger I/II candidates for the Hidden Valley Wildlife Area in Riverside. Responsibilities include monitoring and patrolling the Reserve, assisting with fence maintenance, habitat restoration, and trash cleanup to protect natural resources.

Ideal candidates will work independently in rural areas, operate equipment from weed trimmers to tractors, and follow safety standards while coordinating with law enforcement and fire

Qualifications

  • Independence in rural/remote settings and safe operations.
  • Knowledge of native vegetation in conservation areas.
  • Park operations experience in a Park Ranger, Park Attendant or similar role.
  • Ability to de-escalate conflicts and coordinate with law enforcement and fire officials.
  • Experience handling interactions with diverse publics, including unsheltered individuals.
  • Ability to operate equipment from weed trimmers to large tractors.
  • Knowledge of safe herbicide application practices.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and GIS applications.

Responsibilities

  • Explain and enforce park policies, laws, and ordinances; register visitors and collect fees.
  • Patrol open-space, wildlife habitat reserves, and conservation land; maintain signs and access controls.
  • Plan and participate in habitat creation/restoration; assist with prescribed burns.
  • Monitor records and prepare reports; assist in emergency situations and safety.
  • Provide custodial support and park maintenance work with staff.
  • Maintain equipment and support park operations as needed.
