Job summary

ARIZONA STATE PARKS AND TRAILS in Sedona is seeking a Park Ranger Assistant for Red Rock State Park. This temporary/seasonal role works up to 40 hours per week and may total up to 1500 hours per calendar year. Housing is not included.

You will provide customer service, handle cash at the gift shop, maintain public safety, and assist with interpretive programs and guided walks while promoting park resources and visitor satisfaction.

Qualifications

• One year of customer service experience OR a Bachelor's degree in Park Management, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or a closely related field.
• Arizona driver's license required; EMT certification may be required for some positions.
• All State employees must complete E-Verify.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer service by phone and in person; respond to inquiries about park hours, accommodations, and reservations.
• Handle cashier duties at the Contact Station/Gift Shop; collect and account for park fees.
• Perform basic building and trail maintenance; promote visitor safety and enforce park rules.
• Host visitors and assist with interpretive programs or guided walks.
• Complete necessary incident reports and communicate with local officials as needed.

Job Summary:

Under supervision, performs a variety of work activities while providing customer service in the operation of a recreational, historic or natural resource park; interprets natural features of the area, or historic objects/artifacts for visitors; and ensures public safety by enforcing Park rules and regulations.

Job Duties:

• Customer Service: Provides customer service by phone and in person and respond to publics inquiries about park hours, accommodations and reservations.
• Cash Handling: Perform cashier duties at Contact Station/Gift Shop. Collect and account for fees for park admission and store purchases.
• Public & Staff Safety: Performs basic building and trail maintenance to maintain safe and sanitary conditions. Promote the safety of park visitors and enforce Park rules and protect Park resources. Utilise two-way radio communications system. Confers with local officials and law enforcement officers. Completes all necessary reports concerning incidents.
• Outdoor Recreation & Programmatic: Host visitors. Assists with interpretive programs and may lead guided walks or hikes. Assists with information in response to visitor questions, directions, guidance, and concerns.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

• Knowledge of: A working understanding of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. Park rules/ regulations, fees and revenue functions. Building maintenance, groundskeeping and tool usage. General office procedures.
• Skills in: Public relations and information dissemination. Customer service, active listening. Critical thinking. Driving and operating automotive equipment.
• Ability to: Research of natural or historical information. Performing math calculations. First aid techniques. Oral and written communications. interpersonal relationships. Deescalate upset or non-compliant visitors.

Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate for this position will have One year of customer service experience equivalent; OR a Bachelor's degree in Park Management, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or a closely related field. Any combination of training and experience that meet knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Must possess and maintain a current Arizona Driver’s license appropriate to assignment. Some positions may require certification as an Emergency Medical Technician.
