Job summary

Pinellas County is seeking a Park/Preserve Maintenance Worker (Custodian) for Fort De Soto Park to perform routine cleaning and maintenance of park facilities, restrooms and grounds. You will work as part of a team, assist visitors, and coordinate with staff on rules and safety. The schedule runs Friday to Tuesday, 6:30 a.m.

to 3:00 p.m., at Fort De Soto Park, Tierra Verde, FL. Responsibilities include cleaning restrooms, shelters, and public areas; driving a pickup or cart; performing grounds

Qualifications

• One year of park maintenance or related experience, or a Diploma from the Public Works Academy.
• Valid Florida driver's license on hire.
• Willing to work varied schedules including weekends and disasters.

Responsibilities

• Maintain restrooms, shelters, museum, tables, water fountains, and grills.
• Drive pickup truck or utility cart to clean the park.
• Assist with grounds maintenance and report needed repairs.
• Perform asset management recordkeeping as required.

Job description

Pinellas County's Parks and Conservation Resources Department is dedicated to protecting and improving the inherent value of natural, cultural, and recreational resources. The Park/Preserve Maintenance worker performs manual, semi-skilled labor involving the cleaning of Ft. De Soto Park's facilities, grounds, and equipment.

This position will work as part of a team to ensure the cleanliness of Ft De Soto’s restrooms, shelters, and grounds. Work includes public contact providing information and assistance to Park patrons as well as contacting appropriate Park staff regarding rules and regulations enforcement.

This position Park/Preserve Maintenance Worker (Custodian) is located at: Fort De Soto Park, 3500 Pinellas Bayway South, Tierra Verde, FL 33715.

Work Schedule: Friday – Tuesday; 6:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

What Will You Do?

• Participates in routine to advanced maintenance duties as a part of a team or independently.
• Cleans and maintains Park restrooms, shelters, museum, picnic tables, water fountains, and field grills.
• Drives pick-up truck and/or utility cart to clean the park.
• Utilize gas and/or electric hand tools.
• Assist with grounds maintenance.
• Reports needed repairs to plumbing fixtures in the restrooms.
• Performs recordkeeping duties (asset management system) as required.
• Work weekends and holidays that may entail independent responsibility.
• Perform other related job duties as assigned.

What Do You Need?

• One (1) year of park maintenance, park operations, skilled building, construction, facilities, ground maintenance, laborer or Diploma from the Public Works Academy of the Pinellas Technical Education Center and six (6) months of the above listed experience; or
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
• Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver’s License upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.
• Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

Highly Desirable

• Knowledge and experience in commercial restroom cleaning.
• 1 year customer service experience.

Knowledge, Skills,andAbilities

• Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in general cleaning and all aspects of park/preserve maintenance work.
• Knowledge of department rules, regulations, and operating procedures.
• Ability to recognize safety hazards and take precautionary measures to protect self and others.
• Ability to meet the public and give information regarding Park facilities.
• Ability to utilize basic computer systems.
• Ability to perform manual labor for extended periods, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

Physical Demand

• The work is medium work which requires exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
