Job summary

The Indianapolis Zoo is seeking a Park Operations Technician to support daily operations, including event setup/breakdown, grounds maintenance, and general facility readiness for guests.

You will work with a cooperative, hands-on team; operate small equipment such as power washers and leaf vacuums, and help maintain cleanliness and safety across the Zoo.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Valid Indiana drivers license and insurable driving record.
• Experience operating small equipment such as power washers, leaf blowers, or leaf vacuums is highly desired.
• Cooperative, team-oriented attitude.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision and use good judgment.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays.
• Comfortable working outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
• Able to move items up to 50 pounds and 100 pounds for short distances.
• Navigate ladders, stairs, and uneven terrain.

Responsibilities

• Organize, stock, and maintain general storage areas and supplies.
• Operate and maintain small equipment such as power washers, leaf blowers, and leaf vacuums.
• Follow Zoo sanitation, chemical handling, safety, and sanitation standards.
• Use a two-way radio and telephone to communicate with team members.
• Follow Universal Precautions and Bloodborne Pathogen Guidelines as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support daily Zoo operations.

As a Park Operations Technician, you'll play an important behind-the-scenes role in helping create the clean, safe, and welcoming environment our guests experience every day.

About The Role

Park Operations Technicians support the day-to-day operation and upkeep of the Zoo, including event setup and breakdown, cleaning, storage organization, equipment maintenance, and general facility support. We're looking for a dependable, team-oriented individual who enjoys staying active, working with their hands, and tackling a variety of tasks throughout the Zoo. If you're someone who can work well with a team while also getting the job done independently, we'd love to have you join our Park Operations team!

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with setup and breakdown for non-catered events and seasonal events, including CATZ, ZooBoo, and Zoobilation.
• Clean and vacuum event spaces and other areas to maintain cleanliness standards.
• Organize, stock, and maintain general storage areas and supplies.
• Operate and maintain small equipment such as power washers, leaf blowers, and leaf vacuums.
• Assist with general building and equipment maintenance and help keep equipment in good working order.
• Follow all Zoo sanitation, chemical handling, safety, and sanitation standards.
• Use a two-way radio and telephone to communicate effectively with team members and respond to operational needs.
• Follow Universal Precautions and Bloodborne Pathogen Guidelines as required.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the daily operations of the Zoo.

What We're Looking For

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Valid Indiana driver's license and a driving record that is insurable under the Zoo's insurance requirements.
• Previous experience operating small equipment such as power washers, leaf blowers, or leaf vacuums is highly desired.
• A cooperative, team-oriented attitude and the ability to work effectively with others.
• Ability to work independently with limited supervision and use good judgment in a variety of situations.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, overtime, and varying shifts as needed.
• Comfortable working outdoors and in a variety of weather conditions, including hot, cold, humid, and inclement weather.
• Ability to frequently move throughout the Zoo while transporting items weighing up to 50 pounds and position items weighing up to 100 pounds for short distances.
• Ability to navigate ladders, stairs, and uneven terrain while maintaining balance.
