The Town of Wendell seeks a Park Maintenance Technician to maintain parks, facilities, trails, and athletic fields year-round. This role involves turf management, pesticide application, equipment operation, and safety compliance.
Coordinate with athletics staff to prepare fields for practices and games; inspect facilities for safety; assist with budget requests and inventory. Heavy work with equipment is required.
Performs semi-skilled work in the daily maintenance of the parks and recreation facilities, trails, and athletic and multi-use fields for the Town.
An employee in this class participates in the maintenance of the Town’s parks and recreation facilities and equipment. Work requires the employee to perform long- and short-range planning of work to include year-round program of turf maintenance for athletic fields; to determine the priority of work; to ensure the work is performed in a safe and effective manner; and to determine quality of work. Employees are also responsible for all horticultural activities associated with the department to include turf management, landscaping, and pesticide application. Employee must be conscious of safety methods to avoid injury to self and others and is accountable for ensuring proper maintenance of public facilities. Work is performed under general supervision of the Parks and Recreation Director and is evaluated on the basis of attaining performance objectives, quantity and quality of work, work safety, and responsiveness to requests or complaints.
*This position may hire as a level one (I) or level two (II) based on qualifications; Park Maintenance Technician II salary range: $44,795.60 - $69,433.18
Graduation from high school or GED with experience in the area of grounds and facility maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Work in this class is characterized as heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, knelling, crouching, reaching, standing, working, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arms’ length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities.
Employees in this class are subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions with exposure to extreme cold and heat, noise from motorized maintenance equipment (mowers, cutting devices, etc.), vibrations, atmospheric conditions, and oils, greases, fumes, dirt, sharps from metal and glass, and biting or stinging insects and possibly reptiles. Employee must wear hearing/visual protection while performing most field work and may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens requiring specialized personal protective equipment.
