Job summary

Roanoke County is seeking a Park Maintenance Technician III to perform manual and skilled maintenance across county parks and athletic fields. The role includes operating tractors, mowers, and trucks, with a requirement for CDL within six months, and fertiliser application duties as directed.

Requirements include a high school diploma and 3+ years of equipment operation in grounds maintenance, plus the ability to work extended shifts during emergencies and events.

Qualifications

• Requires 3+ years operating motorized equipment in grounds maintenance.
• Athletic field/park maintenance experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record; Class A CDL or ability to obtain within six months.
• Fertilizer Applicator certification or ability to obtain within six months.
• First Aid/CPR and forklift certification or ability to obtain within one year.

Responsibilities

• Operates assigned equipment to support park and athletic field maintenance.
• Performs routine park maintenance tasks, including mowing, trimming, landscaping, athletic field grooming/lining, and general grounds upkeep.
• Assists with turf management activities by calibrating, applying, and documenting fertilizers, herbicides, and other grounds products.
• Performs routine operator inspections and basic maintenance of equipment, vehicles, and trailers; reports needed repairs.
• Loads, unloads, transports tools, equipment, and materials to and from work sites.
• Performs basic carpentry, masonry, and hardscape repairs to park amenities.
• Assists with park maintenance and restoration work under direction, following standard methods and quality expectations.
• Supports snow removal operations and emergency response as assigned.
• Follows safety policies and PPE usage.
