Job summary

Woodridge Park District is seeking an entry-level seasonal Parks Seasonal Maintenance worker for the Maintenance Building in Woodridge, IL. The role supports general park upkeep and event setup under supervision, with a 40-hour week through 2026.

Ideal candidates are at least 17 years old, capable of operating vehicles and power equipment, and can follow safety rules while communicating effectively with staff and the public.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Be at the assigned facility/park on time and stay during the scheduled time.
• Remove all garbage from parks and playgrounds.
• Follow safety rules and procedures.
• Wear required PPE (ear plugs, safety glasses, gloves).
• Assist in setting up, operating and taking down events.
• Report accidents and injuries to supervisor promptly.
• Operate park district vehicles and equipment as directed.
• Maintain turf by mowing and trimming as assigned.
• Provide general maintenance for parks, buildings and furnishings.

• Job Summary

Parks Seasonal Maintenance are responsible for general maintenance duties required for proper upkeep of park district owned or managed parks and facilities. These duties will be performed under the direction of the Parks Maintenance Manager, Superintendent of Parks and/or any full-time parks department staff. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties

• Be at the assigned facility/park at the assigned time and remain at the facility/park during the scheduled time.
• Remove all garbage and refuse materials from parks and playgrounds.
• Obey the practical safety rules, regulations, and procedures established by the loss control program that is pertinent to the activities conducted by the department.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (ear plugs, safety glasses, gloves, etc.).
• Assist in the setting up, operation and taking down and other maintenance duties of special events.
• Promptly report all accidents and injuries occurring within the course of employment, no matter how minor to the supervisor.
• Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices, or conditions observed to the supervisor.
• Operate assigned Park District vehicles and motorized equipment
• Operate equipment including but not limited to mowers (comparable to a 580 Toro mower), weed eaters, power washers, blowers and other miscellaneous power equipment as directed.
• Perform general horticultural practice of plant material in include maintenance, installation and removal.
• Operate tractors and riding/walk-behind mowers to mow and trim turf
• Perform general maintenance functions as assigned for parks, buildings, facilities, and park site furnishings/equipment.

Perform general maintenance service as assigned on District vehicles and equipment.

Attend all required safety programs and in-service education meetings. Avoid engaging in any horseplay and refrain for distracting others. Actively support loss control programs that effectively control and reduce accidents. Cooperate with and assist in the investigation of accidents to identify cause and corrective measures to prevent their recurrence.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 17 years of age, 18 years of age is preferred.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

• Obtain and maintain a valid Illinois State Driver’s License
• Obtain and maintain a class “C” certification on Illinois State Driver’s License (preferred)

Working Conditions

Subject to outside environmental conditions which may include varying weather conditions, extreme heat, cold, wind, rain and high humidity. Subject to inside environmental conditions. Subject to various chemicals (i.e., fertilizers, weed killers, cleaning agents, and oil fuels)

• If 17 years of age the following restrictions are in effect:
  • Cannot operate heavy powered machinery, i.e. table saws, drill presses, riding mowers, wood chippers and vehicles over 6000 lbs.
  • Cannot use construction equipment
  • Cannot enter a confined space
  • Cannot work with hazardous materials
  • Cannot spray pesticides or other commercial chemicals (non-household chemicals)
  • Cannot operate a vehicle that requires a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)

Special Considerations

Requires a flexible work schedule which may include days, nights, weekends and occasional overtime.
