Job summary

Smith Mountain Lake State Park in Virginia is seeking a Park Ranger Maintenance to supervise maintenance operations, ensuring facilities and grounds are safe and meet current standards. You will lead a team of hourly staff and volunteers, assign tasks, and oversee routine upkeep.

The role also involves fee collection, public relations, and visitor assistance, along with educating visitors on park rules and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Experience leading, directing, or training staff, volunteers, or work crews.
• Experience performing grounds or facility maintenance (mowing, landscaping, trail upkeep, etc).
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment for repairs.
• Working knowledge of basic construction and maintenance trades (carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry).
• Experience performing basic vehicle or equipment maintenance (small engines, mowers, etc).
• Effective verbal and written communication with staff, volunteers, and visitors.
• Experience using computers and software applications (email, incident reporting, timekeeping).
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Perform ongoing routine maintenance and repairs to facilities, grounds, and equipment.
• Provide daily supervision and assign work tasks to hourly employees and volunteers.
• Perform duties related to fee collection, public relations, and visitor assistance.
• Educate visitors on park rules and regulations.
