Job summary

The City of Watsonville is seeking a Park Maintenance Aide I to perform general grounds maintenance, landscaping, restoration, and light construction in city parks and public spaces. You will work as part of a crew and may operate various equipment.

This entry-level role requires the ability to follow supervision, learn tasks, and provide routine maintenance under guidance. A California driver's license and willingness to work outdoors are needed.

Qualifications

• One year of paid manual labor or gardening experience.
• Possession of a valid California Class C Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
• Must obtain CPR and first aid certifications during employment.
• Willing to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Willing to respond to emergencies outside regular hours.

Responsibilities

• Perform park operations and routine maintenance for safe, high‑quality areas.
• Water, mow, rake and edge lawns and turf.
• Plant and care for trees, shrubs and flowers; prepare soil.
• Inspect playgrounds and facilities for hazards and perform repairs as needed.
• Operate a range of grounds maintenance and light construction equipment.
