Job summary

Howard County Government is seeking a contingent Service Maintenance worker to perform park maintenance, landscape care, and light construction tasks across park lands. The role involves using hand and small power tools, assisting with turf and planting, and supporting recreation events.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old with a High School Diploma or GED and a Maryland Class C driver’s license. Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 100 lbs are required.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older and possess a High School Diploma or GED.
• Read and follow written directions.
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle and possess a Class C Maryland driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Perform park maintenance tasks using hand tools and small power tools.
• Pick up loose trash and maintain park grounds along pathways and pavilions.
• Assist with turf maintenance, planting, pruning, and other grounds tasks.
• Assist recreation programs and special events with set‑up and tear down.
• Turn on sports field lights and monitor park activities during evenings and weekends.
• Maintain a nightly/daily journal and communicate with supervisor and public about safety and operations.
