Job summary

City of Independence, Missouri is seeking a Park and Grounds Maintenance worker to join our Parks & Recreation team. Under supervision, you will maintain playgrounds, buildings, and landscape features while operating a range of equipment, perform inspections, and help keep facilities safe and inviting for visitors.

This is a physically demanding, outdoors position requiring the ability to lift heavy objects, work in extreme weather, nights, overtime, and weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of maintenance/ manual labor experience preferred.
• Ability to operate and care for basic park equipment and vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Drives and maintains playground equipment, carousel, and miniature train.
• Performs equipment and vehicle inspections.
• Operates a variety of light and heavy equipment as directed.
• Maintains and repairs park buildings and restroom facilities.
• Assists with landscaping tasks such as mowing, trimming, and gardening.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
