Job summary

The City of Independence, Missouri is seeking a Public Service Worker I for the Street Department. Under supervision, you perform a variety of manual labor in the construction and maintenance of streets, parks, airport, and other municipal buildings or grounds.

You must be able to perform heavy manual labor, operate trucks and light equipment, and work well with a small team. A high school diploma or GED is required, with availability for nights, overtime and weekends.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform heavy manual labor.
• Some knowledge of maintenance of public grounds and facilities.
• Ability to operate trucks and light equipment.
• Knowledge of operation and maintenance of trucks, light equipment and lawn care tools.
• Ability to listen to, follow and communicate oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work well with a small team.

Responsibilities

• Mows and trims lawns and brush.
• Picks up and disposes of trash and brush.
• Drives vehicles and operates light equipment.
• Maintains city vehicles.
• Repairs streets, manholes, street signs, and water and sewer lines.
• Installs water meters and digs meter boxes.
• Serves airport equipment and grounds.
• Assists with maintenance of Memorial Hall as needed.
• Performs additional duties as assigned.
