Job summary

The City of Cape Girardeau is seeking a dependable Grounds Maintenance worker to care for city parks and facilities. You will perform mowing, trimming and routine landscaping, and assist with equipment upkeep and basic repairs.

You may oversee part-time staff and participate in weekend rotations for trash collection and restroom cleaning. A valid driver's license is required, and safety-conscious applicants are preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of ground maintenance and landscaping practices.
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
• Knowledge of cleaning practices.
• Experience operating outdoor turf equipment (mowers, trimmers, pickups).
• General knowledge of equipment maintenance.
• Understanding of safety guidelines.
• Ability to interpret verbal and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Mow, trim and provide lawn care for parks and facilities.
• Maintain and repair city equipment.
• Perform preventive maintenance on parks and facilities.
• Supervise part-time staff as needed.
• Perform landscaping and snow removal; remove dead/ hazardous trees.
• Remove trash and clean restrooms and shelters.
