About Madison Square Park Conservancy

Madison Square Park Conservancy (MSPC) is a nonprofit organization entrusted by the City of New York to operate Madison Square Park, a 6.2-acre public space in Manhattan. Our mission is to conserve, maintain, and program this historic green space, including raising 100% of the park’s operating budget. We pride ourselves on caring for and shaping an urban oasis for all to enjoy.

Madison Square Park is a vibrant community hub, attracting 60,000 daily visitors, serving as a public garden, urban forest, wildlife habitat, art space, and a place for recreation and community gathering.

Position Overview

Reporting to the Associate Park Managers, Park Crew Members are responsible for daily setup and cleanup in the park, participating in other Conservancy activities as needed, and collaborating with team members.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Park Operations:
    • Maintain safety standards and park cleanliness.
    • Perform infrastructure maintenance and repairs.
    • Operate and troubleshoot machinery and equipment.
    • Respond courteously to patron inquiries.
    • Work during inclement weather and emergencies.
  2. Program Operations:
    • Set up and break down park events and volunteer activities.
    • Participate in special projects.
  3. Administration:
    • Monitor and report safety hazards and vandalism.
    • Maintain records of inspections, inventories, and documentation.
    • Respond to emails and inquiries promptly.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Ability to perform physically strenuous work in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs, walk, stand, and push for long periods.
  • Comfort in public-facing roles and interacting with visitors.
  • Responsible and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency with technology such as Slack, Google Suite, and Zoom.
  • Seeking long-term, stable employment.
Work Schedule and Compensation

40 hours/week with potential overtime. Shifts include:

  • Friday-Tuesday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM (2 positions)
  • Friday-Tuesday, 1:00 PM - 9:30 PM (2 positions)

Hourly pay ranges from $20.00 to $25.00 based on experience.
