Job summary

Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Harlingen, TX is seeking a Bookkeeper to manage financial reporting, payroll, accounts payable/receivable, deposits, and bank reconciliations, supporting parish resource stewardship.

The ideal candidate holds an Associate’s Degree in Accounting with 5+ years’ experience, strong GAAP knowledge, and proficiency in Shelby Accounting Systems and MS Office; this is a full-time on-site role requiring integrity and attention to detail.

Qualifications

• Fully initiated, Catholic who fully adheres to the teachings of the Catholic Church.
• Employment is contingent upon applicants satisfactorily passing criminal background and reference checks.
• Completion of Safe Environment Training-Protecting God’s Children is required upon hire.
• Must have a clean driving record, current Texas Driver’s License, reliable transportation, and valid vehicle insurance.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate financial records and post receipts and expenditures to proper accounts; prepare financial reports for the pastor.
• Process payroll and payroll tax deposits.
• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable.
• Reconcile bank statements and ensure timely tax reports (941s, W-2s, 1099s).
• Assist with month-end and year-end closings and prepare annual budget reports.
