Position Summary:
To provide parenting skill coaching and referrals to individuals with substance use and/or mental health needs and their families throughout the Meta House continuum of care.
Essential Functions:

  • Provide individual parenting skills to an assigned caseload.
  • Assess parenting and family needs. Collaboratively develop parenting skills and resource-focused treatment plan with clients and families.
  • Support clients in accessing benefits and resources (WIC, W2 etc.), enrolling their children in childcare and school programs, and coordinating and participating in children’s appointments
  • Assist clients and families with coordination of visits, including communication and advocacy with caregivers, child welfare and other community partners.
  • Connect clients and families with community-based resources, services, and support. Provide outreach services to the extended family members of clients.
  • Facilitate Parenting education and Nurturing Program groups.
  • Participate in the Celebrating Families planning activities and facilitate the Celebrating Families curriculum.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team. Communicate and collaborate with colleagues via phone, email, and in-person.
  • Perform all required record keeping and paperwork, accurately and timely.
  • Attend required meetings and clinical supervision.

Secondary Functions:

  • With supervisor, ensure coverage of all services as assigned and coverage for colleagues' PTO time.
  • Assist with the safe, timely, and organized transportation of clients
  • Participate in agency or community-based committees or meetings as assigned
  • Assist with other duties to support general program operations and occasional special programs
  • Other duties as may be periodically or permanently assigned
Qualifications

Required Education:
- Bachelor's degree in human services or related fields required

Required Experience:

  • Experience working in a setting that provides services to clients and families with co-occurring disorders
  • Working knowledge of child protective services, mandated reporter, WIC and W2 benefits, physical and mental health care systems, criminal justice, and MPS/school systems
  • Experience working directly with children and families

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Emotional intelligence and resilience when handling crises and long-term exposure to traumatic stories and experiences.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational, time management, and planning skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with both internal team members and external agencies/partners.
  • Able to work with a diverse client population and understand and respect family dynamics from many cultural viewpoints.
  • Independence, flexibility, and a mature approach to problem solving.
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Computer skills including proficiency in Epic Connect, Microsoft Office Suite, and other applications
  • Knowledge of co-occurring treatment issues, the effects of substance use disorders and behavioral/emotional health disorders on families and children, and trauma informed care
  • Able to develop, deliver and implement family activities and teach/model parenting skills
  • Understand and model healthy parent/child relationships

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
Must be able to:

  • All Meta House staff are required to provide proof of vaccination for MMR, Varicella, and annual flu shot.
  • Adherence to a non-smoking work environment.
  • Tolerate occasional hot or cold days.
  • Alternate sitting or standing for extended periods of time at will.
  • Lift up to 25 pounds on a regular basis and 40 pounds on occasion.
  • Ascend and descend stairs using feet and legs.
  • Bend, stoop, twist, squat, and kneel to perform essential functions.
  • Reach overhead, and at or below shoulder level.
  • Read and enter text or data into a computer or other system.
  • Seize, hold, grasp, turn, or otherwise work with hands.
  • Touch, pick, punch or otherwise work with fingers.
  • Hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds in order to communicate with clients and/or colleagues.
  • Express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word to impart oral information to clients or the public and convey detailed spoken instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly.
  • See clearly at approximately 20 inches or less including use of computers or tablet.
  • Visually identify clients and others for reasons including, but not limited to security, presence in the building.
