Job summary

Youth Advocate Programs, Inc. seeks a Part-Time Recovery Advocate to support parents navigating substance use recovery within the child welfare system. The role involves coaching, resource connection, information gathering, and transportation, all within the family’s home and community context.

Candidates should have strong communication skills, comfort with nontraditional hours, and the ability to work independently. A high school diploma is required, with associates/bachelor’s preferred.

Qualifications

  • Experience with substance use recovery (professional or personal) preferred; sobriety requirement if personal recovery.
  • Parenting/child care experience is a plus.
  • Maintain ethical boundaries and show empathy and respect for individuals served.
  • Comfortable working within homes and communities at various times of day.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, technology and interpersonal skills.
  • Professional, flexible, and able to work independently.
  • Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and automobile insurance.

Responsibilities

  • Help parents achieve goals in their Recovery Wellness Plan by connecting to resources, coaching, and coordinating supports in home and community.
  • Model, gather information, liaise with other supports, provide transportation, and assist with safety planning.
  • Provide crisis support and strengthen parenting and other skills through the YAP Wrap model.
  • Candidate will be trained in substance use recovery and work in diverse home/community settings.

Job description

Summary of the Position: Flexible, hourly part-time position working with Adults and individuals whose problematic substance use issues have led to their involvement with the child welfare system.

  • The Parent Recovery Advocate helps parents to achieve the goals in their individualized Recovery Wellness Plan through connecting them to resources, modeling, coaching, information gathering, liaising, and communicating with other supports, providing transportation, strengthening parenting and other skills, providing crisis support and assistance with safety planning, and other supportive services provided in the person’s home and community.
  • All service plans are holistic (addressing multiple life domains), strength-based, and developed and implemented by using our YAP Wrap model.
  • The Recovery Advocate is specially trained by YAP in substance use and recovery.
  • Experience with substance use recovery professionally or personally/relationally (if in personal recovery, must have at least two years of sobriety) preferred.
  • Parenting/Child Care experience a plus.
  • Flexible Hours - Non-Traditional (Evenings and Weekends may be required)
