Job summary

Phoenix House California is seeking a dedicated Parent Partner to support families in the Wraparound program. You will work closely with caregivers to ensure their voices are heard and coordinate with social services to strengthen family plans.

Successful candidates bring firsthand parenting experience with county services and the ability to navigate DCFS/DMH systems, offering crisis support as needed within a multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• Must be a former parent and/or caregiver of county‑related or similar services.
• The qualifying candidate will have personal experience with interacting with the system (e.g., DCFS, DMH or Probation).

Responsibilities

• Facilitate family involvement, provide family support, and advocate for a family in all aspects of the Wraparound process.
• Provide in‑home direct services using a team and community‑based approach and participate in the Child and Family Team.
• Coach families in communication skills, anger management, problem‑solving and stress management.
• Provide crisis intervention as needed (including evenings, nights, and weekends) and help develop crisis plans.
• Develop and maintain relationships with agencies and families to coordinate services.

Position Details

Reporting to the Director of Wraparound Services, this position is responsible for providing one‑on‑one support and coaching to the participants’ parents/caregivers, ensuring that the parents/caregivers’ needs are met, and their voices heard. Attend all Child and Family Team meetings and offer additional support through phone calls and additional face‑to‑face contact. Able to function as part of a multi‑disciplinary team. Familiarity with principles of family‑centered, strengths‑based services. Knowledge of community resources. Responsible for a caseload of ten to twelve slots. Upholds regulations established by the Department of Mental Health and the Department of Children and Family Services in Los Angeles County.

A Day as a Parent Partner might look like the following:

• Facilitate family involvement, provide family support, and act as an advocate for a family in all aspects of the Wraparound process. Guide family through intricacies of service delivery system assist the family to have a voice in Team meetings.
• Provide in‑home direct services using a team and community‑based approach. Participate in the Child and Family Team, helping the engagement of child, family, extended family, and informal resources. Participate in the development of Child and Family Plans.
• Model and coach family in such areas as communication skills, anger management, problem‑solving, stress management, appropriate discipline, etc.
• Provides crisis intervention as needed (including evenings, nights, and weekends). Participate in the development of appropriate crisis plans.
• Develop and maintain a working relationship with agencies, resources, and families to coordinate services. Interface with DCFS, DMH, court systems, schools, and other community liaisons.
• Participates in case of supervision on a weekly basis; discusses current caseload, documentation, and productivity; and accepts/implements feedback and direction into direct services with clients. Maintains regular consultation with the Child and Family Team through weekly participation in Internal Team Meeting; and as needed.
• Transport program participants in the personal vehicle to scheduled court appearances, doctors’ appointments, other off‑site appointments, and events when clinically appropriate.

To be successful as a Parent Partner, you will want to have:

• Must be a former parent and/or caregiver of county‑related or similar services, successfully transitioned to self‑sufficiency (i.e., Mental Health Services, IEP, Regional Center Services, etc.).
• The qualifying candidate will have had personal experience of interacting with the system, such as DCFS, DMH or Probation, either themselves or with youth under their care.
