Job summary

San Diego Center for Children is seeking a Parent Partner/Peer Support Specialist to provide therapeutic support to families in wraparound teams and individual meetings. The role involves collaborating with all wraparound team members and community partners.

Expect an average caseload of 10–12 families and active engagement in the client’s treatment plan. The position requires strong communication, cultural competency, and the ability to work evenings.

Qualifications

• Valid California Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
• High School Diploma or GED or equivalent.
• Experience as a consumer or caregiver of children’s behavioral health services.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
• Preferred: Associate or Bachelor’s degree; SmartCare proficiency; Certified Peer Support Certification; Spanish bilingual.

Responsibilities

• Provide education, advocacy, crisis intervention, case management, rehabilitation and other therapeutic services in a community-based setting.
• Utilize supervision and training to deliver high-quality services to families.
• Coordinate and develop diverse resources for families in their communities.
• Share personal experiences to engage families while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Provide culturally competent education and hands-on coaching to parents.
• Triage crisis situations with the team and perform basic risk assessments.
• Assist parents in connecting to behavioral health services.
• Coordinate treatment with schools, physicians and community resources; participate in team meetings.
• Maintain accurate case records per Medi-Cal requirements and SDCC policies.

Summary

The Parent Partner/Peer Support Specialist will provide therapeutic services and support to family members and/or caregivers in wraparound teams and individual meetings; Parent Partner/Peer Support Specialist will form collaborative partnerships with all wraparound team members and community partners. Average caseload of 10-12 families. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• In support of the client’s treatment plan and the wraparound plan of care, provide education, advocacy, crisis intervention, case management, rehabilitation, and other therapeutic services in a community-based fashion as they navigate through the systems of care
• Utilizes supervision, consultation, and training to provide high quality services to families, including evidence-based parenting curriculum and high fidelity wraparound
• Locate, coordinate and develop linguistically and culturally diverse informal and formal resources and networks for families in the communities where they reside
• Appropriately share personal story to enhance engagement with families and increase awareness of clinical staff about parenting challenges and difficulties maneuvering the ‘systems’, and maintain appropriate professional boundaries with families
• Provides culturally competent education and hands‑on coaching to parents to help them better understand how the “systems” work, and the process of accessing community resources in their area
• Triage crisis situations with team members, including doing basic risk assessments, safety planning, and connecting to resources to maintain safety in the home, school, and community
• Assists parents in connection to needed behavioral health services
• Coordinates treatment with referring parties and outside resources including schools, psychiatrists, support groups, child care, government assistance, family advocacy programs, and others as appropriate. Participates in child and family team meetings
• Maintains accurate, timely, and complete case records per Medi‑Cal requirements and SDCC policies and procedures
• Maintains clear, effective, and open communication between multi‑disciplinary clinical staff, and administrative personnel within and between SDCC programs
• Encourage involvement of parents in our Program Advisory Group (PAG) and WrapWorks events
• Availability to work several evenings a week
• Fulfills all required/assigned training including training in high fidelity wraparound, roadmap trainings, SDCC Partners Training, applicable EBP trainings, cultural competency, and HIPAA
• Maintains certified peer support specialist certification, if applicable
• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Valid California Driver’s License and Reliable Transportation
• (must be willing to utilize personal vehicle for work related responsibilities)
• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
• Experience as a consumer or caregiver of a consumer of Children’s Behavioral Health Services, Child Welfare Services, the juvenile justice system, Regional Center, or Special Education
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team

Preferred Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university
• Prior experience working in a high fidelity wraparound program or as a parent educator/advocate
• Proficient in SmartCare (online medical records system)
• Certified Peer Support Certification
• Bilingual in Spanish
