Job summary

UCLA provides driver services for paratransit vans and other vehicles to transport students, staff, and faculty, including those with mobility impairments, along scheduled routes on UCLA campus and adjacent areas.

The role requires knowledge of California vehicle laws, safe operation of vehicles, and the ability to communicate clearly with passengers and dispatch. Valid California Class C license is required; background checks and DMV records are standard, with on-site work and variable schedule.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of driving laws as specified in the California Vehicle Code.
• Knowledge of UCLA campus and adjacent areas to ensure most effective routes for pick-up and drop-off destinations.
• Skill in the safe operation of various passenger vehicles to provide transportation as directed.
• Skill in establishing/maintaining tactful relationships with supervisors, passengers, co-workers.
• Skill in relaying information to passengers politely, clearly, and effectively.
• Ability to use two-way radio and/or cellular phone for communication purposes in a professional manner and utilizing proper etiquette.
• Ability to maintain accurate, legible logs and records.
• Ability to participate in safety training/certification programs.
• Ability to detect irregular vehicle performance in order to recognize required maintenance or repairs.
• Ability to maintain excellent attendance and punctuality in order to meet specific deadlines.
• Ability to use electronic mapping and navigational tools and Thomas Guide for selecting event routing.
• Ability to safely interact with trip scheduling software.
• Ability to handle complex procedures on electric vehicle charging and monitoring.
• Ability to operate wheelchair lifts, ramps and other special equipment.

Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Principal Auto Equipment-Supervisor, provide driver services of paratransit van(s), light duty vehicles, passenger vans, and/or cars to transport students, staff, and faculty, including those with permanent and temporary mobility impairments, needing assistance getting to/from campus locations and adjacent residential areas on scheduled routes.

Salary & Compensation

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
