Job summary

First Student, Inc. is seeking a Safety Manager to oversee driver safety, training, regulatory compliance, and accident investigations for the Essex County Paratransit operation.

The role focuses on hands-on safety leadership and developing personnel to meet ADA and accessibility standards. The position requires extensive transportation safety experience and the ability to coach drivers, coordinate with operations leadership, and promote a strong safety culture across a 47-vehicle paratransit

Qualifications

• Five years of progressively responsible experience in transportation safety or paratransit operations.
• Experience with driver instruction and safety management.
• Knowledge of ADA requirements and accessibility standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and support safety and driver training programs at the location.
• Provide initial, refresher, and ongoing driver training.
• Conduct behind-the-wheel instruction and safety evaluations.
• Train on defensive driving and passenger assistance techniques.
• Investigate accidents and safety events; document findings.
• Identify safety trends and implement corrective actions.
