Job summary

City of Santa Fe Springs seeks an accounting professional to administer the integrated financial system and perform accounting functions in the Auditor/Treasurer's office. The role includes month-end and year-end closing, financial reporting, budgeting support, and audit preparation.

Strong Excel/Word skills and knowledge of government accounting are preferred. You will work with departments and software vendors to resolve issues and improve processes.

This position is responsible for administration of the integrated financial system and to perform various accounting functions in the Auditor/Treasurers office.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Administers the integrated financial system including performing training, setting up accounts, setting up user security, performing month end and year end closing procedures, oversees assigned modules, system testing, prepares user menus and helps install new updates.
  • Prepares various financial reports.
  • Assists in the preparation of budgets and financial statements.
  • Assists year end audit preparation.
  • Prepares and monitors billing for outside agencies and departments.
  • Monitors and reconciles cash balances.
  • Works directly with software vendors to identify and/or seek solutions to software or user problems.
  • Works with other departments on their accounting and financial software questions.
  • Reviews procedures for efficiency and effectiveness and recommend new procedures.
  • Reviews commissioners run for coding errors and other discrepancies.
  • Prepares and enters journal entries for the General Ledger.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications and Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

College graduate with two years of accounting experience on financial systems or high school graduate with ten years of accounting experience and two years experience maintaining an integrated financial system and experience with Microsoft Excel and Word.

Plus Factors which will be considered in the determination of candidates to be interviewed include: experience with governmental (fund) accounting; experience with AS400, New World Financial Systems and Microsoft Access.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Knowledge of Excel, Word and the Windows environment.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of government accounting.
  • Knowledge of the uses and applications of personal computer systems and electronic data processing software.
  • Experience in the use of an integrated financial system.
  • Knowledge of the principles of budgeting, monitoring expenses, projecting revenue and general auditing.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize and coordinate work.
  • Ability to analyze work flow and quality problems and assist in the design of procedures for improvement.
  • Ability to analyze, develop and assist in the modification of accounting and auditing procedures, methods and techniques.
  • Ability to develop and interpret account records, documents and reports and summarize information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with County and department staff.

Hours of Work, Testing and Interview Dates

Starting Salary Range

$20.7377-$24.0477/hour (Grade 18, Union position)

Full Salary Range

$20.7377-$29.8230/hour (Grade 18, Union position)

Hours of Work

This position has a usual work schedule of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Some occasional evening hours may be required.
