St. Louis County is seeking personnel for responsible operations and technical work at assigned solid waste management disposal sites. The role includes directing site operations, coordinating maintenance, and inspecting waste materials to ensure compliance with policy.
Applicants must have OSHA HAZMAT training, two years of licensed waste facility experience, and MPCA certifications. A valid driver’s license is required, with potential CDL-HazMat endorsement within six months.

An employee in this class is responsible for service operations and routine maintenance and inspection functions at assigned County solid waste management facilities. Duties assigned include: maintain daily staffing at disposal sites, direct and coordinate site operations, perform routine site maintenance and repair projects, monitor contractor activities, and perform facility and waste materials inspections. Under the general direction of Solid Waste department supervisory staff, work is performed in accordance with established solid waste disposal policies and procedures.
These work environment factors are general in nature and may vary depending on the specific position being filled. CONSTANT: Lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds; near and far vision; depth perception; field of vision; walk; exposure to weather and work outdoors. FREQUENT: Handle; reach; move about; work with and around others. OCCASIONAL: Lift and/or carry up to 100 pounds; and exposure to noise.
Successful completion of the OSHA Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) training. Equivalent of two (2) years full-time experience as a licensed solid waste facility attendant. Possession of a MPCA Type III Waste Disposal Certification; and may be required to obtain a MPCA Type II Certification if necessitated by position assignments. Possession of a standard passenger vehicle drivers license. May be required to obtain a Class "B" Commercial Drivers License with a Hazardous Materials Endorsement within six months of appointment.
Points will be awarded for job-related experience and education exceeding the minimum qualifications. Only experience occurring during the ten most recent years will be used in determining this rating. Experience beyond ten years may be included on the application for purposes of meeting minimum qualifications or informing the hiring authority of your complete employment history.
