Job summary

Milaca Public Schools is seeking a paraprofessional substitute to support teachers, case managers, and principals. You will provide academic, behavioral, social, and life skills assistance across different programs, adapting materials and activities to student needs.

Responsibilities include tutoring, implementing behavior plans, and assisting with community-based job training per IEP goals. The role requires flexibility and cooperative teamwork across school environments.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2 year Associate's Degree / 60 college credits / MN Paraprofessional option or equivalent.
• Experience in child development, education, or childcare is preferred.

Paraprofessional Substitute

Reports to: Supervising Teacher, Case Manager, and Building Principal/Assistant Principal

Dept: Varies and may include Special Education, Title I, Media, Technology, School Readiness or other

Terms: School Year Position (approximately 9 month) - This is based on daily needs.

Days: Monday through Friday as needed to cover for Paraprofessional employees on leave

Hours: Flexible - our Red Rover Substitute Management System allows for subs to choose available jobs that work within their schedule

JOB SUMMARY

As directed by the teacher, case manager, or principal, paraprofessionals provide guidance, support, concept review/practice, living skills support, and perform other duties based on specific programs and individual student needs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• 2 year Associate's Degree / or 60 college semester credits / or passing score on MN Paraprofessional Assessment / or demonstrates MN Paraprofessional Core Competencies (or ability to complete requirements within a time frame determined by the building principal/assistant principal)

Preferred Work Experience:

• Experience in or knowledge in child development, education, or childcare setting

Special Knowledge/Essential Skills:

• Flexibility to work within a variety of settings including: one-on-one, small and large groups, multiple settings
• Ability to work cooperatively with teachers, students, and their families.
• Accepting of individual student needs and limitations
• Ability to be cooperative and flexible in daily changes regarding assigned duties, supervision, and daily schedules.
• Demonstrates basic technology skills preferably with experience in Google programs.
• Accepts direction from supervising staff in a professional manner.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and administration.
• Demonstrates a positive attitude and the ability to resolve conflicts in a professional manner.

Physical / Working demands:

• Must be able to lift, pull, and move a minimum of 50 lbs
• Duties may include the supervision of students during recess or outdoor class activities in cold or below freezing temperatures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides academic, behavioral, social, emotional, and life skills support:

• Adapts instructional materials, equipment, or strategies as directed by the teacher, supervisor, or case manager to assist the individual needs of students.
• Reinforces and reviews concepts that were presented by the classroom/special education teacher with students in a one to one or small group setting.
• Provides supplemental tutoring, job skills, guided practice, and other instructional relevant activities to students as directed by the supervising teacher(s).
• Provides behavioral support and implements behavior plans for students as directed by teacher/case manager related to IEP goals, objectives, and behavioral plans.
• Provides support in the community for on-the-job training related to a student’s IEP plan, goals, and objectives.
• Assist students with daily living skills which may include, but not limited to dressing, toileting, eating, and overall hygiene.
• Provides support as necessary for students who may be dealing with emotional or behavioral obstacles in a calm and direct manner.

Supervises students to ensure student safety:

• Escorts and assists students to and from their classes.
• Assists in the preparation of education materials and equipment while ensuring they are used properly and students remain safe.
• Provides supervision in classrooms, hallways, playgrounds, cafeteria, and other areas involving school-related activities.

Works Cooperatively with Others:

• Assists the supervising teacher/case manager with charts, copies, files, data processing, forms, mailings, and communications.
• Collects academic/behavioral data and monitors student progress.
• When requested, participates in conferences beyond the regular work day.
• Maintains student and family data privacy and confidentiality.
• Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, case manager, or building principal/assistant principal.

Physical Demands:

• Lifting: Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull objects that weigh up to 50-75 lbs
• Stooping, kneeling, and crouching: Frequent bending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to assist students
• Fine finger dexterity: Ability to use athletic equipment or perform other tasks that require fine finger dexterity
• Vision: Ability to see to monitor student activities and close vision to read handwritten or typed material
• Hearing and speaking: Ability to hear conversation in a noisy environment and communicate clearly and concisely
• Stamina: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time
• Duties may include the supervision of students during recess or outdoor class activities in cold or below freezing temperatures.
