Job summary

Denver Public Schools seeks a paraprofessional to support secondary students with disabilities across integrated and self-contained settings. Responsibilities include assisting with academics, health, daily living tasks, and behavior plans under a supervising teacher.

Requirements include specialized training (provided), annual de-escalation exams, and a CO driver’s license within the district’s required timeframe. The position is on-site in Colorado with DPS’s equity-centered mission.

Qualifications

• Refer to paraprofessional qualifications guide for acceptable credentials.
• Specialized training in invasive procedures will be provided as needed.
• Annual de-escalation and physical restraint exams required.
• Training must be completed within 75 days of initial hire.
• Must have/obtain Colorado driver’s license within required timeframe.
• Live in Colorado and meet district insurability requirements.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.

Responsibilities

• Provide services to individual students per IEP, supporting academic, health and daily living needs.
• Monitor classroom activities and reinforce learning goals under teacher direction.
• Assist with daily living tasks such as toileting, feeding and personal hygiene as trained.
• Perform medically invasive tasks following training and universal precautions.
• Lift and transport students using approved equipment and techniques.
• Support implementation of behavior and health care plans.
• Implement accommodations and modifications for students throughout the day.
• Collect data on IEP goals under supervision and communicate with families as directed.
