Job summary

Searcy School District is seeking a Paraprofessional, Self-Contained to support individualized and small-group learning at McRae Elementary School and Sunshine School. You will assist teachers, reinforce skills, manage instructional materials, and supervise students during routines and activities.

Qualifications

• High School diploma and required special training.

Responsibilities

• Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning.
• Assists teacher in devising strategies based on individual needs and abilities.
• Operates classroom equipment and helps students use instructional materials.
• Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials.
• Guides independent study, enrichment, and remedial work as assigned by the teacher.
• Supervises students during drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
• Reads to students and participates in oral reading activities.
• Assists with library or media center tasks and prepares attendance records.
• Helps with lunch, snack, wash-up, and toilet routines.
• Alerts regular teacher to issues about individual students.
• Acts as chief information source for substitutes and maintains confidentiality.
• Participates in inservice training programs and assists with bus transportation as needed.
• Performs specialized services to students as required by responsibilities.

REPORTS TO:

Principal and Special Education Director

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
2. Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
3. Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
4. Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by teacher.
5. Distributes and collects workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction.
6. Guides independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher.
7. Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
8. Assists with such large group activities as drill work, reading aloud, and story telling.
9. Reads to students, listens to students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with students.
10. Assists students in the library or media center.
11. Checks notebooks, corrects papers, and supervises testing and make up work, as assigned by the teacher.
12. Checks and records student attendance.
13. Helps students with their clothing.
14. Assists with lunch, snack and cleanup routines.
15. Assists with wash-up and toilet routines.
16. Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student.
17. Serves as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
18. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
19. Participates in inservice training programs, as assigned.
20. Assists with bus transportation as needed.
21. Performs specialized services to students as required by specific responsibilities.
