Job summary

Academies of Math and Science (AMS) in Tucson is seeking a Paraprofessional (Teacher’s Assistant) to support scholars with an advanced curriculum. You will work alongside teachers, provide small-group instruction, and substitute when required to ensure uninterrupted learning. Located at 1557 W.

Prince Rd, the role starts in the 2026-2027 school year. The position offers starting pay between $15.50 and $17 per hour, DOE, with full benefits and opportunities for growth within the AMS network

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent and passed paraprofessional exam OR an Associate’s degree or higher.
• Experience with children in a school setting preferred.
• Ability to obtain Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and support campus activities to ensure student safety.
• Assist lead teachers with instruction, classroom management and transitions.
• Work one-on-one or in small groups to reinforce skills and support learning plans.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive classroom environment and substitute for teachers when needed.
• Prepare instructional materials and assist with grading or documentation.
• Collaborate with staff to meet academic and social-emotional needs.

Compensation: Starting at $15.50-$17. per hour, DOE

As part of the AMS family, your role as a paraprofessional is to work alongside our team of talented educators in guiding motivated students through an advanced curriculum. Your role in the classroom includes working with our scholars alongside the teacher and occasionally substituting for teachers when needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise and support with campus-wide activities such as lunch, recess, arrival, and dismissal to ensure student safety
• Support lead teachers in delivering instruction by assisting with lesson activities, classroom management, and transitions.
• Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to reinforce skills, reteach concepts, and support individualized learning plans.
• Assist in maintaining a safe, orderly, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect and engagement.
• Substitute for lead teachers as needed to ensure learning continues uninterrupted
• Prepare instructional materials, set up classroom resources, and assist with grading or documentation as directed.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to meet the academic and social-emotional needs of students
• Model professionalism, respect, and high expectations in every interaction with students, staff, and families.

Qualifications & competencies:

• High School diploma or equivalent and passed the paraprofessional exam OR Associate’s degree or higher
• Prior experience working with childrenin a school setting.
• Ability to obtain a Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Preferred:

• Bilingual in English and Spanish
