SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF CLASSIFICATION
The paraprofessional assists teachers by performing a variety of tasks that promote student learning and well-being. The paraprofessional works individually and in small groups to provide instructional, behavioral, and other support to students with disabilities both in and out of the classroom.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of child development.
- General knowledge of instructional strategies and practices to support students with disabilities.
- Ability to use technology into the delivery of curriculum.
- Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, and school based staff, students, parents and community.
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
- Basic understanding of how to engage with and support students with special needs.
- Ability to use and support technology, software, and devices.
- Ability to assist with implementation of the instructional program and to support and monitor student behavior.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and to perform all required tasks.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
- High School diploma or GED required. Associate's Degree preferred. Please note, proof of high school graduation is required (i.e. diploma or transcripts).
- Two years of experience in an education related field including preschool, adult day program, after school program, extended day, or school/non-school based departments, etc. preferred.
- Any combinations of applicable education, training, and experience which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position may be considered.
CERTIFICATE AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
- Certification/licensure not required.
- Certified by the NH State Department of Education as a ParaEducator II preferred.
