Job summary

Caledonia Community School District seeks a Level 1 Paraprofessional to provide instructional support to students at Emmons Lake Elementary under the supervision of a certified teacher or building principal.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with elementary students in a classroom setting is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning.
  • Assists in devising strategies based on student needs.
  • Monitors and supervises curriculum-based testing and makeup work.
  • Performs clerical, classroom maintenance, and instructional duties.
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of student information.
  • Plans instruction techniques and prepares materials based on assessments.
  • Administers assessment tests and interprets results.
  • Records and reports assessment data to teachers and administrators.
  • Instructs and reinforces math and reading strategies.
  • Tutors students in one-on-one or small groups.
  • Meets with teachers to discuss goals and progress.
  • Attends professional development sessions and conferences.
  • Provide personal/hygiene care for students as needed.
  • Perform recess duties.
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal

Reports To:Building Principal

Compensation:$15.78 per hour (or more depending on experience) 27.5 hours per week/183 Days per year

Position Summary

Contributes to the achievement of educational goals by providing additional educational support to students in the areas of math, reading, and other content areas. The paraprofessional works under the direction of a certified teacher or the building principal.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced and outlined by certified staff
  • Assists the certified staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning materials and skills based on an understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities
  • Monitors and supervises curriculum-based testing and makeup work as assigned by the certified staff
  • Performs clerical, classroom maintenance, and instructional duties as assigned by the certified staff
  • Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and community
  • Plans instruction techniques and methodologies and prepares lesson materials based on assessments of individual students and their needs
  • Administers assessment tests and interprets results to identify student needs
  • Records and reports assessment data to teachers and school administrators; completes required forms, reports, and other paperwork
  • Instructs and reinforces math and reading learning strategies
  • Tutors students in one-on-one or small group settings in all curriculum areas
  • Meets with teachers to discuss students’ goals and progress, and discuss additional interventions
  • Attends professional development sessions, training programs, and conferences to stay current in the field
  • Provide personal/hygiene care for students as needed
  • Perform recess duties
  • Other duties as assigned by the principal

Employment Qualifications

  • EDUCATION: This position requires a high school diploma. An associate’s degree is desired, but not required.
  • EXPERIENCE: Experience working with elementary students in a classroom setting is desirable.

  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds of stored files. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus, especially due to concentration when reading and working on a computer screen.
