Responsibilities

  • Discuss duties with teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information about children and families.
  • Participate in staff development, faculty meetings, and events when requested.
  • Help supervise arrival/departure and provide support in multiple settings.
  • Follow instructions from teachers and administrators.

Job description

Orchard Farm School District is seeking High School Juniors and Seniors enrolled in the Early College AAT program interested in a Paraprofessional-Intern opportunity.

A Paraprofessional-Intern provides social and academic support in K-6 general and special education settings, including but not limited to the cafeteria, classrooms, hallways, recess, and assemblies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist students with disabilities according to their individualized needs as directed by a certified teacher, para, or administrator.
  • Collect data and manage behavior under the direction and supervision of a certified teacher, para, or administrator.
  • Support students with disabilities with assistive devices, supportive technology, and assistance accessing various areas of the building.
  • Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
  • Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information about children and their families in accordance with Board policy and law.
  • When requested by administration, participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events.
  • Help supervise the arrival and departure of students, and provide support in multiple settings throughout the school day.
  • Follow instructions from teachers and administrators.
Compensation
  • First Year: Starts at $15.50 per hour.
  • Second Year: Eligible for a pay increase with expanded job responsibilities.
  • 2-3 days per week, schedule will be work around college courses and in conjunction with school counselors.
Qualifications
  • Must be a current Orchard Farm High School Junior or Senior in good standing, participating in the Early College Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) program.
  • Must complete orientation and all required online training before working with students.
  • No certifications required prior to hiring.
  • Opportunity to take the ParaPro test during the 3rd semester of the program, with test fees reimbursed by the district.
  • CPI certification option (training provided by district if needed).
Skills and Abilities
  • Read and comprehend simple written and oral instructions, short correspondence, and emails.
  • Write short correspondence and emails.
  • Communicate one-on-one and in small groups.
  • Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Occasionally solve problems involving concrete variables within standardized situations.
  • Basic computer skills including word processing and data entry.
  • Communicate appropriately with students, staff, and parents.
  • Work closely with other school personnel to ensure appropriate services for students.
Physical Demands
  • Is frequently required to stand, walk, stoop, bend, and kneel.
  • May have to use physical restraint or personal safety techniques.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must have both close and distance vision and be able to hear voices in a noisy environment.
Conditions and Environment

The individual who holds this position will regularly work in a school environment that is noisy and active. Occasionally the individual will be required to work outdoors to perform such tasks as loading and unloading students from district transportation and supervising recess.
