Function

Under supervision of the principal, assistant principal(s), and teachers, the paraprofessional III assists in implementing the Bilingual/English as a Second Language (ESL) programs for students. The paraprofessional III is responsible for providing English Learners (ELs) with instructional support to reinforce the campus Bilingual/ESL programs. The paraprofessional will also assist the Campus LPAC Chair in maintaining Language Proficiency Assessment Committee (LPAC) documentation for English Language Learners (ELs).

Responsibilities
  • Plans with the Bilingual/ESL teacher to provide English-acquisition instructional program elements to students, appropriate to the different needs of students, served by the program.
  • Assists Bilingual/ESL teachers in preparation, organization, and management of materials and equipment that complement the instructional focus of each lesson plan.
  • Provides a continuous reinforcement of English-language patterns in a consistent manner.
  • Assists Bilingual/ESL teacher in administering language‑proficiency instruments at the beginning of each school year and in the spring.
  • Exhibits awareness of learning styles of students, and recognizes changes.
  • Recommend parents for parent involvement activities.
  • Attends in‑service workshops and conferences as needed and/or required.
  • Participates in additional professional development in the area of technology, Bilingual/ESL education, Sheltered Instruction, parent involvement strategies, and needs of at‑risk students.
  • Works collaboratively with the principal, assist teacher(s), parents, and students.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Not Applicable

WORKING CONDITIONS
