Job summary

Corpus Christi Independent School District is seeking a Paraprofessional II (Special Education) to assist in implementing IEPs and supporting instructional activities. The role involves preparing instructional materials, guiding student groups, and helping monitor behavior under teacher direction.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist in implementing the students' IEP and planning materials.
  • Prepare and use instructional materials under teacher direction.
  • Instruct students and groups under teacher/administrator direction.
  • Assist with behavior monitoring and documentation per plan.
  • Accompany students to mainstream settings and activities as directed by the teacher/administrator.

Function

The Paraprofessional II (Special Education) assists in implementing the students' Individualized Education Program (IEP), participates in selecting, planning, organizing and evaluating materials, and releases the teacher from routine tasks.

Responsibilities:
Instruction
  • Plans with teacher and parent(s)/guardian(s) for the development and implementation of the IEP.
  • Provides assistance to teacher in preparing and using instructional materials.
  • Instructs students and groups of students under the teacher's/administrator's direction.
  • Assists students with learning activities.
  • Provides community-based instruction as directed by teacher/administrator.
  • Accompanies students to mainstream settings working under the direction of the classroom teacher, including the cafeteria, library, field trips, assemblies, pep rallies, and other activities.
Behavior
  • Assists in monitoring and control of student behavior in the classroom and other areas.
  • Assists in the implementation and documentation of the student behavior management plan as directed by teacher/administrator.
  • Physically restrains students as directed.
Physical
  • Gives physical assistance to students as needed, including toileting, feeding, positioning, locomotion, and other services.
  • Assists with physical education activities and provides direct instruction as directed by the teacher.
  • Provides in-pool assistance and instruction to students in the aquatics program.
Materials
  • Provides assistance to teacher in the preparation, usage, and storage of instructional materials, including bulletin boards, displays, centers, and media equipment.
  • Assists in keeping the classroom and restroom clean during the school day.
Community-Based Instruction
  • Accompanies students via public transportation to community-based training sites and provides direct instruction as directed by the teacher.
Transportation
  • Assists and/or monitors the transportation of students.
Clerical
  • Assists in maintaining student records, including grades, attendance, and student folders.
  • Assists in collating information and preparing reports, including enrollments, class counts, and contact hours.
  • Schedules and/or notifies participants and assists in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) and IEP process (secondary only).
  • Assists in the development and production of IEPs.
  • Obtains and disseminates information regarding student lessons and progress.
Testing
  • Assists in testing routines.
  • Scores objective measurement instruments.
Other
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the campus administrator.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None
WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Challenging situations, limited in-District travel, and moderate to heavy lifting
  • Ability to receive information and/or instruction from internal/external customers through spoken expression.
  • Ability to manipulate tools/equipment/keyboards.
  • Ability to convey information and/or instruction to internal/external customers through spokenexpression.
  • Ability to perform work while standing and/or walking for extended periods, up to eight (8) hours a day.
  • Ability to see detailed information, naturally or with correction.

Salary: ISUP/503: $15.00 minimum/hour (individual salary calculation is based on applicable experience)
